Episode 129 - 40th Anniversary Of Alien
“Alien” is a landmark film. It marks a turning point in horror cinema, blending ultra realistic science fiction with mind bending body and creature horror. In many ways, you can delineate horror cinema before “Alien” and after “Alien”.
Masterfully directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigorney Weaver in her break out role, the film spawned a media franchise/empire that is still going strong today. There have been 3 direct sequels, two spin offs, and two prequels with a third prequel in pre-production. There have been books, audio dramas, animated shorts, film shorts, video games and more all set in the universe created by “Alien”.
In our first “special content” episode we take a trip with Matt to the theater where he meets up with his youngest son and his eldest daughter and her boyfriend, all of whom have never seen the movie before, to see it on the big screen for Turner Classic Movies’ special 40th Anniversary celebration of the release of “Alien”. We then wrap up the show with Matt and Bob discussing the movie in our traditional format. It’s a fun journey and we hope you enjoy it!
