“The Hound of the Baskervilles" 1939 is the first of two movies made by 20th Century-Fox as part of the fourteen Sherlock Holmes films released from 1939 through 1946. Universal Studios produced the remaining twelve films. Basil Rathbone plays Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce is Dr. Watson in all fourteen movies in the series. For many movie fans Mr. Rathbone and Mr. Bruce are the definitive characters from the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle detective mystery novel.
